The California Home for the Adult Deaf (CHAD) one of the two major programs that CAD oversaw that were aimed at improving the quality of lives for deaf people. Today, CHAD, Inc., is an independent, nonprofit public benefit corporation.
There is much more to accomplish, progress, however, has been made and improvements have taken place that would never have been achieved without the invaluable support of CAD members.
CHAD has been enriching the lives of our nation’s Deaf and hard of hearing seniors since 1952. Owned by the California Association of the Deaf, CHAD is licensed 24-bed residential facility exclusively for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Residents come from all over the United States to take advantage of Southern California’s weather and abundance of recreational opportunities for Deaf seniors.
Arcadia, California, known as the “city of beautiful homes,” is a quiet family community of tree-lined streets nestled below the San Gabriel Mountains and the Angeles National Forest.
Designed with “family” in mind, CHAD offers sunny private and semi-private rooms clustered around a garden patio. From the moment you enter the doors, you are greeted by residents who are surrounded by books, photos and momentos, all testament to the life and rich history of CHAD. Beyond, an old oak tree shades the patio and a feeling that good cooking and comfort are just around the corner.
