CAD, founded in 1906 in Berkeley, California, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization representing people who are Deaf and for whom American Sign Language and Deaf Culture collectively represent their primary experience and existence. CAD is operated of, by, and for the Deaf Community, which advocates, promotes, protects, and supports the rights, social welfare, and a high quality of life for Deaf Californians.
The mission of CAD includes empowering Deaf Californians to exercise self-determination and independence necessary to lead productive lives in the broader community; ensuring equal opportunities for social, educational, employment, and access to services.
