About PSCAD:
Founded in August 2006 in Palm Springs, California, PSCAD is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under California Association of the Deaf known as CAD. PSCAD represents people who are Deaf for whom American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture collectively represent their primary experience and existence. PSCAD also represents deaf who have other primary channels of communication. PSCAD is operated by, of, and for the Coachella Valley’s Deaf community, which advocates, promotes, protects, and supports the rights, social welfare, and a high quality of life to enable Deaf Californians to exercise self-determination and independence necessary to lead productive lives in the broader community; ensuring equal opportunities for social, educational, employment, and access to services. PSCAD commits to respond to the critical needs and concerns for individuals who are Deaf in the locality of the association.
History Highlights:
2006: Successfully conducted a first annual Town-Hall Meeting.
2007: Received the grant to start a PSCAD Deaf Youth Leadership program.
2008: Hosted CAD quarterly statewide meeting and first bi-annual Winterfest in Palm Springs.
Victor Lema, chapter president was the first PSCAD member as one of four delegates to NAD Conference in New Orleans.
Hold a first General Meeting with the Election for 2008 – 2010.
